Psychology: The Degree Margins Course Book

Psychology: The Degree Margins Course Book cover by Liam Jordan, with illustrations of the brain, perception and social behaviour

Undergraduate companion · writing in progress

I am writing a comprehensive companion to undergraduate psychology, designed to support students from the foundations of the subject through to advanced study and the empirical project.

What it will include

  • The core subject: biological, cognitive, developmental and social psychology, individual differences, and the history and conceptual foundations of the discipline.
  • Research methods and statistics: study design, ethics, quantitative and qualitative methods, data analysis and advanced statistics.
  • Advanced and applied topics: cognitive neuroscience, clinical, forensic, health, educational, occupational, counselling, and sport and exercise psychology.
  • Academic and project skills: critical reading, academic writing, planning an empirical study and bringing a research project together.
  • Learning support: diagrams, worked examples, explanations of key ideas, questions to check understanding and references for further reading.

The textbook is still being written and revised. Publication details and availability are not yet confirmed. It is intended to complement students' lectures, seminars, reading and university materials.

Fiction

The Departure

The Departure is my four-book dystopian series exploring freedom, conformity and the quiet ways ordinary people challenge systems of control. The main narrative follows Joseph Townsend; the prequel examines how the world he inherits came into being.

  1. The Departure: Block 17 cover by Liam Jordan, showing a figure approaching a walled city

    Book 1

Joseph's growing doubts about his tightly regulated city lead him to escape beyond its walls.

  2. The Crossing: Outer Country cover by Liam Jordan, showing a traveller at a checkpoint overlooking open countryside

    Book 2

    The Crossing: Outer Country

Life outside brings new responsibilities and different forms of control, complicating the promise of freedom.

  3. The Return: Block 17 cover by Liam Jordan, showing Joseph approaching the city gates

    Book 3

    The Return: Block 17

    Final-stage draft · unpublished

Joseph confronts his past and returns to the city, seeking change through connection rather than revolution.

  4. The Measure: Wiley Murphy cover by Liam Jordan, an orange-toned city checkpoint labelled A Departure Prequel

    Book 4 · prequel

    The Measure: Wiley Murphy

    Approaching final-stage draft · unpublished

Small bureaucratic decisions, compromises and acts of resistance reveal how the city's oppressive system developed.

The series is not yet published. I am considering publication through Amazon KDP, with paperback and Kindle editions planned for all four books. The first book is also likely to be offered through Kindle Unlimited. Publication dates and availability are still to be confirmed.
